Natural Area Field Trip - Results
Six people joined Shirley Muse for a pleasant walk through the Natural Area the morning of May 10. Black-headed grosbeaks were very vocal and visible, as were Bewick's wrens, a warbling vireo, a pair of Swainson's hawks, an osprey, a couple great blue herons, several yellow warblers and orange crowned warblers. Goldfinches and song sparrows were plentiful. A sharp-shinned hawk sat on a tree limb for all to see and red-winged blackbirds were everywhere. The group startled a deer which bounded off into the brush. Many of the shrubs were blooming and the trees have leafed out to form a beautiful canopy in the middle of the trail.
