Art Rempel Scholarship
Blue Mountain Audubon Society has established a scholarship with Whitman College to honor the memory of Arthur Rempel, late emeritus professor of biology at the college and a pioneer leader of the local Audubon society.Dr Rempel, a life member of National Audubon, helped found the Walla Walla chapter. He was for nearly three decades before his death in May of 2007, a major contributor to chapter programs on birds and nature and organizer for a number of successful activities in local conservation. The Society’s nature trail at Fort Walla Walla is named for him.
The Rempel Scholarship will award five hundred dollars each year to a Whitman junior majoring in biology with the money to be applied toward that student’s senior year tuition. Blue Mountain Audubon has committed $3000 to establish the scholarship fund and seeks additional contributions to increase the fund to at least $10,000 in the next year.
